Aaron has been reading We can do better than this : 35 voices on the future of LGBTQ+ rights edited by Amelia Abraham. He says:

“In this edited book, 35 LGBTQ+ people write about their thoughts on how we can continue achieving progress at a time when LGBTQ+ people face renewed attempts at discrimination, ostracization and violence. The collated voices include well-known public figures, such as musicians Olly Alexander and Beth Ditto, UK Black Pride co-founder Phyll Opoku-Gyimah, Ru Paul’s Drag Race star Peppermint, activist Owen Jones, and nonbinary artist and filmmaker Fox Fisher amongst others.

Topics range from healthcare to homelessness, gender identity to growing older, allyship to antiLGBTQ+ bigotry. We hear from a wide range of voices, representing varying sexualities and gender identities, ethnicities and backgrounds, to portray a vivid picture of the current climate for LGBTQ+ individuals globally. Some accounts highlighted problems to me for the first time that existed in other countries (such as Brazil), that I wasn’t privy to. Some issues, mainly in the UK and US, were more depressingly familiar, such as the media’s treatment of trans and non-binary people.

We Can Do Better Than This offers ways to pilot through the current turbulence, and reach clearer skies. These can be through small acts of allyship, raising awareness of problems both within and outside the community, and how we can embolden people and enable positive change.”
