In the Directorate of Learning Resources we always want to make sure that the teaching staff at Brookes have the opportunity to find out how the Library can support them with their teaching and research, and who they should contact when they need support.
A number of teams across Learning Resources worked together to create a course for Oxford Brookes staff that introduces them to teaching, learning and research services provided by the Library and by Learning Resources in general.
What is the Working with the Library and Learning Resources course about?
The course introduces staff to all the teaching, learning and research services that are provided by the Library and LR. The course doesn’t create new resources, but rather it signposts our existing resources.
How is the Working with the Library and Learning Resources course structured?

The Moodle course covers the following six topics:
- Using the library
- Support for teaching
- Support for research
- Special Collections
- LR innovation
- Course summary and support
Each section has slides with links to our existing resources and some slides have audio and links to videos. The course offers linear and non-linear navigation, so when staff finish one section they can jump to the next one or to any other section of the course using the dropdown menu. At the end of each section we have included a link to a Google Form that staff can complete if they would like someone from LR to follow up with them.
How do I access the Working with the Library and Learning Resources course?
The course is currently hosted in Moodle and any member of Oxford Brookes University staff can self-enrol.

Who worked on the course?
Five teams from across Learning Resources worked together to produce this course. These include:
- Academic Liaison
- Digital Services
- Scholarly Communications
- Special Collections
- Design and Media Services
How can I help promote the course?
We are actively promoting the course via our various communication channels and we will move it to the new Staff Learning platform by OCSLD when it is launched.
We have created a link that you can circulate in your networks across the University: https://www.brookes.ac.uk/workingwithlr/
You can also include a link to the course in your email signature.
What’s next for the Working with the Library and Learning Resources course?
The Oxford Centre for Staff and Learning Development (OCSLD) are preparing a new platform, which will house all internal training courses for staff. For example, existing staff training courses such as Unconscious Bias, Prevent, Bribery training etc will be moved to that platform. Our course will be moved to the new platform when it is launched. The link will remain the same.
