The Directory of Open Access Journals has turned 20!

Hot on the heels of DORA turning 10,  there’s another anniversary for Open Science advocates to commemorate.

The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) turned 20 on 12 May 2023, and indexes (you guessed it!) open access journals.

The DOAJ was launched in the wake of the Budapest Open Access Initiative – a declaration to make research free and available to anyone with internet access. Their mission was to bring together a list of journals not based on a subscription model, and which could be accessed and reused immediately on publication.

The DOAJ has since become a trusted and valued source for those seeking open access publications.

A number of upcoming events (starting on 15 June 2023) will focus on their three core values: open, trusted, and global.
