What we are reading: The draw of the sea

Front cover of the book The Draw of the Sea by Wyl Menmuir

This week, Maureen reviews The draw of the sea by Wyl Menmuir. Find out more about our What we are reading series here.

“Focused mainly on Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, this beautifully written book recently won the Roger Deakin Award. Although I am a fan of Roger’s classic Waterlog, I loved The draw of the sea so much I would give it another read (not sure I’ll wade through Waterlog again.) Each chapter explores a different feature of coastal life: rockpooling, rowing, surfing, swimming, beachcombing, beach art, even freediving (tried holding my breath for 3 minutes whilst sitting on the sofa – didn’t work), and my favourite – watching a walrus in St Mary’s”
